Can't live with them. Can't live without them.

Dogs. Or is that women?

Might be women, but for this story it is dogs. I love having dogs. Yes. They do tend to create a messier house (possibly smellier too :/). But they more than make up for the mess with their loving, charming, entertaining, snuggling, playful and calming ways. Unless it is winter.

During the rainy season in the beautiful pacific northwest our backyard turns into mud-grass soup. Our dogs tromping through said mud soup make for mud floors, mud rugs, mud beds, mud everything...not so loving or charming about this point in time.

We've tried buckets of water strategically stationed by the back door for washing. We've tried booties snugged up tightly for preventing pitifully dirt-packed pads. Both have been cumbersome less-than-effective solutions.

Our solution this year is a stay-off-the-grass fence (with one small potty area). The fencing keeps dogs on the wood deck, concrete patio, barked rockery and a small slice of grass. Next spring I'll let you know how our experiment worked out :)

I can report that at this point in the adventure said dogs that I can't live without are none too happy.
