That Was Fun

What was fun? Why this past weekend of course!

Grandma, Grandpa, John and I spent the weekend putzing around at the beach. Our time was just the right mixture of work and relaxation. The only thing that would have made it perfect would have been Glenna and David joining us...but winterizing projects at Whidbey demanded their attention. Maybe next time!

Grandpa is missing his hangers for the bird feeders so he is spreading seeds on all the stumps for his feathered and four-legged friends.

Grandma has claimed "dish washing" as her job. I do feel a bit guilty sometimes...but I wouldn't want to take something she enjoys away from her :)

This summer Grandpa was good about going for a short walk each day - always easier when the tide goes out further but the good low tides were in the middle of the night this trip.

Another thing Grandpa has gotten good at is using his walking stick. We have 3 setup for him and he rarely goes anywhere without one. Good job Grandpa - we love that you take such good care of yourself!

Grandpa and John make a trip to Lowe's to purchase a container for storing the gas can's outside of our wonderful new sleeping cabin and a shop light for DavidsRoom (aka the new workshop and tool room). The plan is to also find a new outside home for the lawn mower and the Ted Williams...location still under discussion :)

Grandma and John put together the storage box for the gas cans and put it on the north side of the sleeping cabin. It was about 24 hours of lively conversation amongst the 4 of us trying to determine the best location for the new storage box. Grandma prevailed for now...Grandpa plans to revisit this next spring :)

The weekend was a bit chilly. The sun broke through both days making everything sparkle and shimmer; but the wind still managed to chill you to the bone. We kept the wood stove going from the first cup of coffee in the morning to the last bite of dessert in the evening. The cabin was oh so toasty warm at all times. Grandpa loved it; John and I survived it :)

We put hand warmers in Grandpa's gloves. He loved it!

Projects that I don't have pictures of include repairs to the leaking toilet at the big cabin (that toilet has been a pain in the patute all summer); taking down the temporary flag pole and removing the ramp to the boys dock; fixing the electrical problem in the sleeping cabin; storing all the tiki torches for the winter (grandma's good idea so they last longer!); and raking massive amounts of fallen maple leaves.

But I did get some good snapshots of John splitting wood and Grandpa using the wheel barrel to move the split wood to the wood pile. There probably needs to be at least one more day of splitting wood to have a large enough stash to comfortably get through the winter.

And before you know it, it was time to go home. We said goodbye to another no-fun weekend in paradise and headed to the ferry.

Looks so forlorn when things get put away for the winter...no laundry, no ramp to the dock, no sweet peas, no flag. Just grayness all around.
