Papa's Birthday Weekend

John, Lenny, Dakota and I spent papa's birthday weekend at the beach. We knocked out a few projects, relaxed and enjoyed some cooler temps in the 70's. Started out with grey skies but the rest of the weekend was beautiful with a light breeze. Ahhhh, nice to have mild Northwest weather return.

Care-taking Grandma's garden was on the agenda; did lots of pruning, dead-heading and weeding. It felt like it took a well-full of water to drench the thirsty plants! We cut back all plants on the path so Grandpa (and all of us really) could have an easy time along the walkway. Things were looking good; Grandma will be happy. Ben, Ben, how does your garden grow? Fairly well! Five fennel seeds sprouted and are trying their darndest to grow without regular TLC.

John jacked up the kitchen wall behind the little cabin. It is a temporary fix but for now it will keep someone from stepping clear through the kitchen floor under the cooler. A permanent fix will need to include pouring a foundation, setting beams, re-building walls...and of course lots and lots of weekends and sizable chunk of change...anybody have either of those necessities free and available?

Grandma was thrilled with her new and improved closet doors. I can't remember the last time they opened further than about 12 inches; much easier to hang up clothes and fetch shoes now.

Who says you can't have a Kathleen Culinary Creation for breakfast at the beach?

Monday, August 20 the birthday boy had a fundraising golf tournament for the Boys and Girls Club. Arrival time at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton was scheduled for 8:30 AM so we stayed out at the beach Sunday night. Yes. A real shower would have been nice but a makeshift shower at Aunt Dorothy's with heaters blazing and towels warmed in the dryer wasn't too shabby. The tournament was a successful fundraiser, he took second place and he came home all smiles with tons of loot from the raffles and auction. All in all it was a John Marth day.
